task:
hacking the everyday. What it is obviously essential, at this point when we are familiar with the Arduino and the differences between Analog and Digital IO (technical jargon for Input-Output) is toidentify intereting inputs and outputs around us. For the next tutorial you should suggest and if possible bring, a number
of everyday objects that may either provide useful IOs, or to which IOs
could be added in interesting ways. Home appliances and in particular
toys provide a great number of ready to use electronics and complex circuits
that can be easily interfaced with the Arduino Board. A visit to an electronic
yunkyard (there is one in most buildings) or the toy store, or an appliance
shop such as teknik magasinet may provide some interesting catches. Keep
your mind open and be creative. A plant can be used as an input/ output
device, for example, if connected to some of the simple sensors we have
used, fruits and vegetables can make bateries, water dripping may be used
as an output device...this is the time for some brain-storming. The use
of this everyday devices won't only provide us with technology, but will
allow us to deconstruct some of the relations of our ordinary daily life
in its relation to technology. Remember to document your findings, ideas and sketches and add them to
the blog. Keep the size of images manegeable ( about 500 pixels wide is
quite enough for most pictures). As you already know the results of your
work will be exhibited in the space by the entrance hall, in front of
the library. |
